These are all general games cons with RPG, boardgames and GW wargames. I believe that Warpcon may have some DBM this year. I updated our calendar to include these dates.
29 Oct: Gaelcon went off with it's usual big splash last weekend. I only dropped in for a day but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. There were lots of tables for wargaming in the centre of the hall rather than stuck in a corner as sometimes happens - well done to the organisers.
Don't forget that the DGG DBM Pairs competition is coming up on the 9th Nov in Dublin, army lists are due to the umpire, Eric Nolan, by Nov 1st.
12 Oct: TCD Gamers' Leprecon 2003 dates have been announced. It will be held on the 23rd-24th Febuary. Events haven't been announced yet but I'm sure there will be some GW games. There was a DBM comp last year but this is in some doubt for next year.

1 Oct: The dates for Warpcon in 2003 have been finalised, it's on the 22th-26th of January. 13 Sept: The Ireland team in our first appearance at the
Granson International Team
Challenge event on the 7-8th of Sept. in Switzerland did us proud by
winning 3 of their 4 matches and ending on the top table in the final round
with an outside chance of winning outright. It wasn't meant to be however
and the worthy winners Italy wiped the floor with us. Still,an excellent
showing at our first major international outing. The scores were:
Ireland vs Spain 7-4
Ireland vs UK2 7-4
Ireland vs France2 6-4
Ireland vs Italy1 0-12
Well done again to our team of: David Houstan (capt), Tony Walsh, Alex Moran
and Richard Aynsley. Our final position in the group of 16 competing national
teams was approximately 9th but this does not reflect our overall performance
at the weekend. We also won the singing contest in the
pub on Sat night :-)

Eric Nolan (the umpire) has announced the details for this years DGG Pairs DBM comp in Dublin on Nov 9th. This is a real fun comp with a relaxed atmosphere and a strong historical feeling as all compeditors play in teams of two with a historical pair of armies. If you've been thinking of giving DBM a try this is a good chance. Contact Eric about a loan of an army for the day.
21 Aug:
On Aug 16th a Friendly International
DBM match was held between Ireland and New Zealand
teams during the practice day for Britcon (the UK

things didn't go our way (this time!). The final scores
were as follows:
Richard Aynsley vs Jer Morgan 0-10

27 July: The Dublin Games Guild is running the Strongbow's Shield DBM competition next weekend (3rd Aug). The deadline for army lists has passed but we could still squeeze a couple of late entries in - contact the umpire if you're interested. At this comp there will also be the founding AGM for RINIWA.
I've also added a skeleton calendar for 2003 to our Irish event calendar page.
13 July: Added Vaticon IX in November to our calendar of events. This is a general games con put on by the UCD Games Soc but it has wargames on the programme (probably GW stuff).
I also heard that the Games Workshop Irish Grand Tournament for WH40K is planned for the end of August. Contact Didier in the Blanchardstown shop for more info. If anyone knows an exact date and any other details on this event, could they please let me know.
7 July: For anyone who'd like to re-live the Cuchulainn Trophy, there is now a competition report on the DGG website.
2 July: Well Q-Con is over, thanks to all the organisers for a great weekend. The Irish DBM Ratings have been updated to take into account the results of the DBM comp held there and the May-June round of the Belfast KO competition. Also at Q-Con was Replay, a well-stocked games shop from Bangor. I've added an entry for them to our Irish Wargames Directory.
I also received a note from Dermot Connolly of the Foyle Kriegspielers to say that the address of their website has changed to: http://foylekriegspielers.n2v.net and also the site for Campaign Colours has changed to: http://campaigncolours.n2v.net . Update your links, we have!

You can opt-out of up to 2 rounds to participate in other Q-Con events during the weekend. See you there!
1 June: Check out the new website for the proposed Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland Wargames Association (RINIWA). On that site you will find details about the founding AGM of the Association (Dublin, Aug 3rd) and a request for logo ideas for the Association.
Also heard about two general gaming Cons coming up with some wargames (probably GW stuff): UberCon (Cork) and Icon (Waterford).
25 May: I got a note from another new painting service in NI, this time it's from Paul Murphy who's based in Belfast. Phone 02890 659866. I have not seen any examples but he claims a "high standard of painting at good rates". I've added him to our Wargames Directory for Ireland.

7 May: A fantastic time was had by all at the 1st Annual Munster Open DBM competition on the 4th. As you can see from the picture above, the weather was so good some people even played outside (and got sunburnt!). The winner was Eric Nolan with Alex Moran hot on his heels as the runner-up. If you'd like to see a full competition report, check out the DGG DBM page.
Also David Taylor recently sent a message to the iwargames mailing list confirming that the Q-Con DBM competition (the Cuchulainn Trophy 2002) is on despite not appearing on the Q-Con website. See you all there!
1 May: The Conclave DBA comp went off well at the weekend - even if we were a bit disorganised. It was nice to see many new faces there playing historical games. Hopefully some of you will be able to participate in the other wargames events during the year. Also a quick reminder that the Munster Open DBM comp is being held in Co. Cork this Saturday. The deadline for army list submission has passed but I'm sure that if you contact Richard ASAP he will do his best to fit you in!
17 April: The upcoming Conclave Eire games convention will include a DBA competition on Saturday the 27th of April. Contact Garry Jackson if you are interested in participating. Garry has a number of spare armies so if you'd like to give DBA a go then this is the perfect opportunity. There will also be Warhammer and Battletech events at the con.

DGG put on a DBM demo game with Selecuids vs Graeco-Bactrians. There was some bad news on the day as QUB DragonSlayers have had to cancel their planned LotR DBM200 competition in April - hopefully they will manage to re-schedule it for later in the year.
10 March: Richard McClean sent a note to the iwargames mailing list announcing new articles on the North Down Warlords website. Check it out. He also said that NDW will be putting on two 25mm participation games (WW2 and Napoleonic) at Ulster Militare on the 16th of March.

16 Feb: Luke Ueda-Sarson has updated and moved his LotR army lists for DBM, they are now at this location. I would recommend these lists for any fans of the books as they are extensively researched and capture the feel of Middle-Earth. In Dublin we had a small DBM comp based on these lists at xmas, see the comp report on the DGG website.
14 Feb: A few small changes to the look of the site, mainly to speed download time.
10 Feb: Site re-vamped and a basic calender of wargames events has been added. Please send us events for inclusion.
