Competition Rules are as follows:

  • The competition will be played with DBM version 3.1 and the current IWF DBM 3.1 clarifications.
  • Armies will be a maximum of 350AP.
  • Only lists from the website theme can be used (2nd Edition DBM Army List Books 1-4 and the authors' official should be used.)
  • Scoring will be 0-10VP as per the rule book with +100VP for a player who demoralises an opponent's army and does not have their own army demoralised i.e. who wins the game.
  • Players must bring their own terrain, basemats will be provided.
  • Players must send their army list for checking before entering the competition, the list-checker is Rob Brennan. Players submitting late lists will not be eligible for the door prize.
  • Late lists may be penalised with a deduction from your total victory points at the end of the competition. Please help us by submitting on time.
  • The competition will have 4 rounds, two on both Saturday and Sunday.
  • The DBM weather and time of day rules must be played if at least one of the players in a game wishes to do so.
  • There will be a non-playing umpire who will only play against the lowest scoring player if there is an odd number players for the current round.
  • The competition will use accelerated pairings for the first two rounds and FIDE pairings after that. As far as possible, no player will be paired against another of the same region/club for the first two rounds.
  • All rulings by the umpire are final.
  • By entering the competition a player agrees to abide by all rules of the competition organisers.
  • If a player arrives late for a competition game without an exceptional reason (discuss with the umpire) they will be subject to the following cumulative penalties:
    • More than 10 minutes late: Their opponent may elect to be attacker or defender (roll dice normally to determine time of day/weather)
    • More than 20 minutes late: After writing deployment orders they must deploy their entire army before their opponent deploys any commands.
    • More than 30 minutes late: They must forfeit the game 110-0.
  • If two players are on the same final score at the end of the competition then a countback mechanism will be used to separate them if it is for a prize-winning position otherwise they will place equally. The countback used will be:
    • If the two players on equal score played each other then the one with the higher score from that game places higher otherwise it is based on the sum of opponents scores and if still tied then the player who has the most 10-0 results.
  • Games will be 3.5 hours +/- 15 minutes in duration. When time is called:
    • if 12 full bounds have already been played no further moves (other than as combat outcomes) can be performed and the current round's combat phase must be completed. Please note that this means there is no guaranteed last bound for a defender.
    • if less than 12 full bounds have been played then finish the current player bound normally and then the game goes into "blitz" mode. Call an umpire (or their nominee) to adjudicate time, rules and perform spontanious/flee moves. Now play sufficient bounds under blitz so that 12 full bounds are completed. Players have 1 minute to throw their dice and to perform all voluntary moves during their turn. The umpire will perform all spontanious advances/flee moves.
  • If after 2.5 hours players have not completed at least 8 bounds then they will be put on "Early Blitz" and the players should time each other to limit the time for spending PIPs (making moves) to 5 minutes.
