RINIWA, The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland Wargames Association

RINIWA Logo

RINIWA is an association of wargames players from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland who have come together to promote the wargames hobby on the island of Ireland and to represent internationally the interests of competition wargames players in Ireland. This is important because the field of international wargames competition is becoming increasingly organised and we need an umbrella organisation to make our voice heard by joining the International Wargames Federation. RINIWA is not a federation of wargames clubs in Ireland as the diverse interests of wargamers make consensus at that level difficult. It is instead a players association focused on one aspect of the hobby, competition wargames.

RINIWA is a non-profit and non-political organisation that is run by players for players. Any money accrued by RINIWA will be ploughed back into wargaming in Ireland. Initially we focused on supporting the DBM ruleset for ancient historical battles. This is because it was the most popular ruleset for international wargames competitions (and competitions within Ireland). Since 2008 we have supported both DBMM (DBM's successor) and the Field of Glory (FOG) rulesets for ancient historical battles. Given sufficient time and member interest we may branch out into other areas of the wargames hobby in the future.

RINIWA is a member of the International Wargames Federation (IWF)
