Latest League News:

30 April 2008:

The draft rules for this years league are here. Please contact us ASAP if you have any feedback or queries.

29 April 2008:

The RINIWA Committee have decided that this year the league will be played using the DBMM 1.0 rules in Leinster and Munster and the DBM 3.1 rules in Ulster. There will be no finals after the pool rounds. Instead the player with the highest percentage of the maximum points will be awarded the overall league trophy.

To join the league: mail Donal Coghlan at league@iworg.com stating your army list name, date and any specific sub-list option (for example a region or country). Note that there is a fee of 3 euro or £2 to join the league and all entries must be made before the 31st of May

The first registered entries for the league are listed above, after the closing date their armies will also be displayed.

13 March 2008:

The first round of this year's league will be in June. RINIWA are currently seeking feedback on whether DBM or DBMM should be the game rules used for the league.

Latest League News:

16 Apr 2007:

Well the league has now started and the final pools are published above. Please be sure to check your paid/not paid status above. I've also published a page with full data on all the players here.

22 Mar 2007:

Added Tony Bergin to the Munster pool. The rules are now frozen for this year. Can all players who have not yet done so send me a mail with army choice in terms of List, date, Nationality, dynasty, tribal grouping, geographic, regional and political sub-division (including the same general or leader if this affects troop choice). Eg Seljuk Turk, 1000AD Hamidids of Aleppo.

21 Mar 2007:

Added Phil Waldron to the Leinster pool and Padraig Bracken to the Munster pool. Also updated the rules to fix a bug in the handling of 5-player round robin tournaments.

18 Mar 2007:

Added Brian Roynane and Derek O'Callaghan to the Leinster pool.

13 Mar 2007:

Updated league registrations (above). Slight revision to the draft rules here- I've made it so every group can play 6 gamesby effectively adding a couple of rounds of swiss to the end of the round robins for 5 and 6 player pools and I've also made it so the umpire cannot nominate himself in the case where we need extra players for the finals.

4 Mar 2007:

Please note that all players must submit their army choice in terms of List, date, Nationality, dynasty, tribal grouping, geographic, regional and political sub-division (including the same general or leader if this affects troop choice) to me by the 21st of March.

I have been assured that Munster will also have a pool.

25 Feb 2007:

Draft league rules are now available here. Please provide me with feedback by the 21st of March as the rules will be frozen then.

2007 League announced with the following email to iwargames@iworg.com:

Hi All,

this year I will take over from David Taylor as the administrator of the league. I'm sure you will all join me in saying many thanks to David for all the work in previous years.

There will be a new format this year but the basic requirements on players are that:
a) They can play approx 1 game per month from April 2007-Oct 2007 ie approx 6 games.
b) They have email access (or a friend who does)
c) They can field an army from this year's theme -
"Armies and Enemies of Islam from the Hejira to Hattin, 622AD-1187AD" (see below for list of armies + theme restrictions)

Please contact me ASAP if you want to participate (and spread the word to people who aren't on the iwargames mailing list.).

Some More Details on Competition Format:

1. There will be 4 pools of players, ideally one each for Ulster, Munster, Connacht and Leinster. If a province can't participate then the largest other province will be split to form 2 pools. **The minimum size of a pool is 4 players.***

2. Players in each pool will play a 6-round tournament. For pools of 4 players this will be a double round-robin, for pools of 7+ players this will be swiss pairings. For pools of 5-6 players it will be a single round robin with only 4 or 5 games respectively.

3. Each month I will generate pairings for the games to be played in that month and email them out to everyone. Games that don't happen will be scored 0-0 (and unrated) unless the failure to play is down to one player in which case a walkover will be awarded. Players know they are going to be too busy to play in a given month can let me know before the pairings are generated and receive a 5VP reward. Byes will score 110.

4. On the 1st of December there will be a 1-day finals in Dublin consisting of a 4-player, 2-round swiss. The winning player from each pool will be invited and if they can't make it then the invitation will cascade down their pool until we have 4 finalists. This event will have a 12euro entry fee to contribute to the costs of hiring a room.

5. Entry fee is £2 or 3euro. This will go towards: - A prize for the highest Top Dog score in each pool (pool winner is not eligible) - A prize for the winner of each pool - A prize for the winner/runner-up of the comp finals.

6. When picking a theme army please note that you can change your list composition from game to game (except at the finals) *but* that you must pick one "date and Nationality, dynasty, tribal grouping, geographic, regional and political sub-division (including the same general or leader if this affects troop choice)" ie super-flexible lists are slightly penalised.

7. The full rules will soon be on the competition web-site which is: http://www.iworg.com/league (fairly empty at the moment)

The main purpose of this change in format is to ensure that games are played and reported in a timely manner. There is still a lot of flexibility for players and we used something similar in the DGG winter league this year, it worked well - even for many occasional DBM players who participated.
