Welcome to the Celtic Championship Homepage

The Celtic Championship competition was inaugurated in 2003. It is designed to be a roving premier event which will encourage communication between Ancients wargames players on the fringes of the thriving English scene. It also aims to provide the opportunity to organise a larger annual event than would be sustainable by the small player communities present in the individual countries of the "celtic fringe". Each year the event will take place in a different one of the hosting regions - the Republic of Ireland , Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales (who have yet to host). The event has been held so far in: Dublin (April 2003), Glasgow (May 2004), Belfast (April 2005), Cork (January 2006), Perth (May 2007) and Belfast (April 2008). The next event will be in Dublin (April 2009)

The idea originated in contacts between RINIWA and the Scottish BHGS representative Hunter Hope. It is designed primarily as an individual competition open to all. There is also a teams aspect to it which will hopefully encourage participation by players outside the hosting region. Teams may either represent a "celtic" region and compete for the Celtic Cup or be made up of individuals/club-members and compete for the independent team trophy.

Team scores are distilled from the performance of their constituent team members in the individual competition. Team members of regional teams may never play each other during the competition.

The organisers wish to thank Aynsley Consulting for their sponsorship of the team competition perpetual trophy (the Celtic Cup). RINIWA and the BHGS-Scotland have jointly sponsored the Celtic Champion's perpetual trophy. The organisers acknowledge their debt to the organisers of DBM at Cancon (the Australian Nationals) for inspiration of the competition format.
