DBMM and FOG - a success story

Hi All,

I was just calculating the RINIWA (Ireland) Player of the Year league for 2008 (we're a bit late, oops) and I noticed some interesting stats: the introduction of DBMM and FOG have been good for us in terms of overall player numbers.

In 2007, we had 34 local players participating in our events (DBM only). This represented a drop-off from the height of
DBM here which would have been circa 45-50 active players.

In 2008, where we ran a mix of DBM (until June), DBMM and FOG (both from July) events we had a total of 46 local players participating.

Thus our overall player numbers have recovered to just about our peak levels. In terms of the rules-system breakdown since July: 59% have played DBMM, 41% have played FOG. As time goes on there are a few players trying a bit of both.

This year (at the time of writing) we have the following events planned:

DBMM: 3x 400AP events, 3x 200AP events, 2x Leagues
FOG: 1x800AP event, 3x 400AP events, 1 x League

Hence, DBMM is basically where DBM was towards the end of its reign in terms of player numbers and FOG has given
us an extended active player pool. Both sets are viable, especially in paired/parallel events where venue rental is
shared. There is a bit of an issue with the distribution of players, making it harder for some players to get local
friendly games but hopefully the spread of tournaments on offer will offset this for people.
