Note that Bk4 Byzantine armies are now allowed to have regular baggage under v3 of the league rules (below).
Introduction
Signup for the 2008-9 league has started. All players need to send their names (and army list, including date and sub-list) to dggleague@iworg.com by the 31st of October.
The draft league rules for 2008-9 are below. However we are basically using the same system as last year except that we will play a game in Dec due to the late end of the RINIWA league this year. Please get in contact if you have any suggestions on the rules.
There will be 4 rounds: Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb. A mail will be sent out at the start of each month with your opponent, you must play the game (in DGG) and report back to me the result by the end of the month. Unreported games will be treated as no game. Players may mail me before a round they wish to miss and get some bonus points for avoiding a no-show.
NB This year we will use the DGG online Game Booking System to store contact info (in the Booking System, click the link "Registered Users Contact Details" or look at the bottom of the Booking System page) rather than having to protect this page too. Mail me if you need a login for the DGG booking system.
DGG Winter League Rules 2008-9
Version 3 (20/10/08)
The Basics
DBMM version 1.0 and the current version of the Commentary will be used
You can use a DBMM army from any of: DBM Army Lists Book 1, DBMM Army Lists Book 2, DBMM Army Lists Book 3 or DBM Army Lists Book 4. DBM lists must use the conversion notes in the DBMM appendix with only Romans, Byzantines, Chinese and Mogols having access to regular baggage. All standard baggage types, i.e. (I), (O) and (F), are considered available for armies from DBM lists. All lists must also specify a list date and sub-list (region, general, etc). The army composition can change between games.
You will have 4 games to play (one each in Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb).
At the start of the month the games for that month will be emailed to all the players.
You must send your results via email to the umpire, Rob Brennan (dggleague@iworg.com) by the last day in the month (CC your opponent on the email). Results emails must state:
The player names
The final score in 0-25VP format.
The number of AP used (if other than 400AP)
The date at which the game took place
Games are normally 400AP but you may agree to play 200AP instead.
The Fine Print
Armies
Before the start of the competition players must pick a list, date and sub-list.
Players are free to change their army composition between games.
Before each game, players must declare their army choice (name, date and any other sub-list) before rolling any setup dice.
Army size should be 400 AP. However, if both players agree they may use 200AP.
After a game you must give your opponent a copy of your army list composition for list checking (see below in section 2).
The Competition
The competition will be run as 4 rounds of Swiss chess with 1 round played in November, 1 in December, 1 in January and the final round in February. Note that there is a December round this year since the RINIWA league has run later than usual.
The scoring system for all games is standard 0-25.
For the initial round of pairings players will be seeded as per their DBMM Glicko Ratings on October 31st. Unrated players will be allocated a "courtesy" rating by the umpire for seeding purposes.
The pairings (opponents and games) will be published by email as near as possible to the first day of each month. Both players must then agree a date to play within the current month.
All game results must be submitted via email to the umpire (dggleague@iworg.com) by the last day of each month. You must also CC your opponent on this email. NB Results submitted late will be discarded and the result treated as if the game didn’t happen.
Opting out of a round A player may opt out of a round of the competition (e.g. if they know other commitments mean they won’t be able to play that month) by emailing the umpire by the last day of the month before. Opting out players will not be included the pairings for that round. For their first opt-out a player will generally get 13 victory points for that round, for subsequent opt-outs they get zero. Opt-outs will be scored as 0 if they are seen to be manipulating the competition format (e.g. securing a placing without playing).
Games that don’t happen. If a game doesn’t get played before a monthly deadline then the game will be scored as 0VP to both players. To avoid this penalty one player may forfeit (eg when they were the more guilty of failing to arrange/play the game) in which case the forfeiting player receives 0VP and the other player receives 25VP. Forfeits will only be accepted via email to the umpire (CCing your opponent) by the last day in the month.
Byes We may have an uneven number of players and in this case the player on the lowest VP (or rating in the 1st round) will receive a bye and 25VP.
Ratings As long as we get at least 7 players then all games will be rated games and count for the DBMM Ratings (as usual byes, forfeits etc will not count towards ratings). If any player fails to play in any round of the competition they will not count towards the requirement of 7 players. Data shall be entered into the ratings only once: at the end of the competition.
List checking. After a game is completed both players should check each other’s army lists. If an illegal list is discovered then a player with a legal list may call for a re-match (if there is time in the current month) or a forfeit by the player with an illegal list. In either case the umpire should be informed. NB this means if both lists are illegal the result stands.
Disputes. In general the umpire shall have the final say in all disputes. In the event of a dispute involving the umpire, the issue shall be referred to the highest seeded player who is not themselves involved in the dispute.
Tied Results In the event of a tie for 1st-3rd place in the final results then the tie-break will be :
results in mutual games
sum of opponents scores
most 10-0 results.
The Games
All games must take place at the DGG club to be valid for the comp.
Games shall be played using DBMM 1.0 Rules.
Weather and time of day shall be played if either player wishes.
At the start of the game the players should agree its duration (e.g. 3.5 hours) and 1 hour before the end time they should check if 8 bounds have been completed and if not then they should start to play 5 minute "blitz" from the next attackers bound. At the end time if they have completed 12 bounds then they stop immediately, if they have not yet completed 12 bounds they should move to 1 minute blitz from the next attackers bound and play sufficient blitz bounds that both players get 12 bounds. (The numbers of bounds required in DBMM200 games are 4 bounds 1 hour before the end and 8 bounds by the end).
