Results

We had a good turn out  with 18 players for Strongbow's Shield. This was a 4-round, 200AP, open-list competition held in Dublin. Scoring was 0-10 with +100VP. Everyone seemed to have a good time and the games all proceeded smoothly. (We even managed to finish on schedule!). I'm sure DGG will run it again next year.

Alex Moran won the spot prize for 1st general killed.
Terry Daly won the spot prize for 1st baggage sacked.
Darren Birt won the prize for best terrain.
JP Chapleau won the door prize of a painted DBA Viking army.

Thanks again to everyone who turned up and made it a successful event. A special thanks also to Alex Moran who helped by providing one of the spot prizes and Eric Nolan for general organisational support.

Pictures

More pictures are coming. Below is a selection of ones that document Darren Birt's day. Thanks to Darren for providing the pictures.

A general picture of the hall taken during round 1
From left to right this shows: JP Chapleau (clipped), the back of Paul Dalton's head,
Terry Daly commanding Seljuk Turks, the loud shirt of David Taylor, Dara Cullen
spectating, Rob Brennan (behind Dara) doing something very important, Mathieu
Bentot, Richard "Muppet-Master" Aynsley watching his Gauls fight Terry's Seljuks,
Padraig Bracken leaning forward behind Richard, David Houstan barely visible
behind Padraig's head, Alex Moran's back, Charle Dickenson keeping a careful watch
on Padraig's move and finally Arnaud Marmier leaning towards his game. It got a
bit hot in there during the day but at least there was a bar on hand...

Game 1: Darren's Alexandrian Imperials versus Darra Cullen's (shown) Dailami.
It looks bad as the Dailami Ax(S) try to match pike in the open (this is just Dara's
3rd game of DBM)... and it was ! (10-0 to the Alexandrians). Dara later managed to
pull off a very respectable defeat of a Parthian army.

Game 2: Darren's Alexandrian Imperials versus David Houstan's Gok Turks
This is near the end of close game where the turks encircled the (very thin) pike
phalanx but never managed to get a convincing break-through. It ended 4-6 with
the Turks having the upper hand.

Game 3: Darren's Alexandrian Imperials versus Tony Walsh's Kimmerians
Oh no! Another mainly mounted army. Once again the pike go shallow but found
it hard to make any headway against the Kimmerian hordes (well Light Horse anyway)
Luckilly (?) a much expected Kimmerian flank-march never showed up. 5-5 result.

Game 4: Darren's Alexandrian Imperials versus Arnaud Marmier's Qataban
At last something the Pike could get their teeth into! An unreliable ally and
excellent PIPs for the first couple of Alexandrian turns sealed the Qataban's fate.
It's hard to appreciate Arnaud's beautifully painted miniatures in this small picture.
It ended 9-1 for the Alexandrians.
